Over 50 acres were deeded to the City of Joplin on November7, 1946 by heirs of James Campbell, a St. Louis Capitalist; one time president of the Frisco Railroad; a former Joplin mining man, who resided at “The Elms” (22nd and Rhode Island) part of each year. Campbell was reported, at one time, to be the wealthiest man in Missouri.
