The park covers approximately 24 acres and was purchased by the City of Joplin on November 28, 1923, and named in honor of Mayor McIndoe, a former State Senator; Secretary of Committee of 150 to plan details for Republican State Convention held in Joplin in 1902; Committee Chairman for Democratic State Convention held in Joplin 1904. First Mayor of Joplin under the commission form of government from 1914-1917.
