Joplin Police have arrested three individuals in connection to a weekend burglary and attempted kidnapping. On Saturday October 19, 2013 at approximately 1902 hours, the Joplin Police Department received a call of a burglary in progress.
Officers responded to 1406 W 5th street and made contact with the victim, who stated that someone broke into his home and fired shots into his bedroom, where he was with his one year old daughter. The subjects fled the scene before officers arrived. No one was injured during the incident.
During the course of the investigation, investigators identified and arrested three individuals. Elise D. Deboutez, age 27 of Nevada, Tayvon D. Smith, age 22 of Joplin, and Ron N. King, age 21 of Joplin were all arrested in connection with this incident.
Deboutez allegedly contracted with Smith and King to kidnap her one year old daughter from the residence at 1406 W 5th. Deboutez is the non-custodial parent.
The following charges have been filed with the Jasper County Prosecutor:
Elise Deboutez Burglary 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action
Ron King Burglary 1st Degree, Assault 1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action
Attempted Child kidnapping
Tayvon Smith Possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute
Additional charges may be filed on Smith in regards to this incident.
