[ARCHIVED] Golf course tournaments for all ages scheduled in July

The 64th Ozark Amateur Golf Tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15 at the Schifferdecker Golf Course. Originally the Tri State’s Open, this tournament has been running since 1922. Last year, over $8,000 in prizes were awarded. The tournament includes 36 holes and is an individual stroke play event and is hosted by the Joplin Golf Club.

There is also a senior division for players 50 and over. A player must declare for the senior division prior to teeing off Saturday. There will be a horse race on Friday, July 13th at pm.

The entry fee is $100 and only cash or checks will be accepted. The entry deadline for this tournament is Monday, July 9 2012. Prizes and flights are determined by the number of entries. Prizes and flights for the senior division are determined by the number of players. Entries and $100 can be mailed to Joplin Golf Club, 506 Schifferdecker Ave. Joplin, MO 64801.

The 2012 Harold Kirk Junior Golf Tournament will take place on Tuesday, July 17th at the Schifferdecker Golf Course. The tournament is open to golfers ages 8-18. Age groups will be divided as follows for boys and girls: 16-18, 18 holes; 13-15, 18 holes; 10-12, 9 holes (with scorers); 8-9, 7 holes (with scorers). Awards will be given to the top three places in each flight.

The entry deadline for the junior tournament is Friday, July 13th. There is a $15 entry fee that includes tournament play, lunch, and awards. Please make check payable to Joplin Golf Foundation. Entries can be mailed to Joplin Golf Foundation, 506 S. Schifferdecker, Joplin, MO 64804. Tee times will be published in the Joplin Globe on July 15, 2011. There will be a tournament dress code of no tank tops, no halter tops, and no cutoff jeans.

The Ladies Drive for the Cause Breast Cancer Tournament will take place on Thursday, July 19 with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $55 per person and the tournament will be a two person scramble. Proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks.

Additional events include the Ladies Invitational on August 16th and the Senior Two Man Scramble on October 2.
