[ARCHIVED] NOAA Weather Radio Transmitter in Avilla Degraded

NOAA weather radio station WXJ-61 in Avilla/Joplin is operating on low power. National Weather Service technicians continue to troubleshoot the problem. An estimated date and time for the Avilla transmitter being restored to full power is unknown at this time.

Those in the immediate vicinity of the Avilla transmitter may still be able to receive the NOAA Weather Radio transmission, however the stability of the transmitter is in question. Thus, it is possible that the Avilla transmitter may fail with no advanced notice.

With the potential for severe thunderstorms and flooding from late Sunday into Tuesday, it is highly recommended that NOAA Weather Radio users accessing the Avilla transmitter consider reprogramming their radios to one of the alternative transmitters listed in the "Additional Info" Link. The transmitter for Neosho is: KJY-82 in Neosho (162.450). Please consult your user manual for instruction on how to switch channels/frequencies.
