Structure Fire, 519 S Connor Ave, Joplin, Mo.
The Joplin Fire Department responded to an initial report of a fire under the house at 519 S Connor Ave. Time of call was 2153 hours Wednesday evening, 15 May. Fire crews arrived on the scene at 2258 hours to find a 1 story residential structure with nothing showing. Upon investigation smoke was noticed coming from the roof vents and attic eaves. Thermal imaging allowed fire crews to determine that a kitchen wall was hot. A section of sheet rock was removed and a section of siding was extinguished using a water can. Crews remained on scene until 2244 hours Wednesday morning.
5 Joplin Fire units and 19 Joplin Fire personnel responded, along with the JPD, and METS. There were no injuries on the scene. The American Red Cross was called to consult with the occupants.
The home is owned by Ron Besendorfer. One of the occupants had dropped a cigarette butt into the void between the house and the back porch, causing a small fire in the void area.
