Structure Fire, 3017 S Moffett, Joplin, Mo.
The Joplin Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from an attic at 3017 S Moffett. Time of call was 1830 hours Wednesday evening, 27 February. Fire crews arrived on the scene at 1835 hours to find no smoke showing. The crew used a thermal imagery camera to identify a hot spot in the ceiling. The ceiling was pulled and a fire on a ceiling joist was extinguished. A fan was used to vent the smoke.
5 Joplin Fire units and 17 Joplin Fire personnel responded, along with the JPD and METS. No one was injured on the scene. Crews remained on scene until 1953 hours. The structure was occupied by Adam Hoofnagle and owned by Harold Hoofnagle.
The cause of the fire was determined to be worn and bare electrical wires around a junction box, resulting in electrical overload.
