[ARCHIVED] Joplin Parks and Rec offering youth soccer program

The Joplin Parks and Recreation department is pleased to introduce Joplin Youth Developmental Soccer League to its sports programs for residents. Grant Purkey, Athletic Manager for the City, encourages all interested in soccer to participate, regardless of skill level.

“This is an instructional training league that will focus on introducing children to the basic concepts and skills that are needed in the game of soccer. The main objective of this league is to foster the development of the Children’s interest in soccer so they will want to pursue the sport the following season.”

Teams with the league will include participants who are randomly assigned based on their age and skill level. Age divisions include 8 and under (ages 6 - 8); 10 and under (ages 9 - 10); and 12 and under (ages 11 – 12). Participants can sign up at the Joplin Athletic Complex. Fee for the league is $60, with players receiving a uniform jersey, shorts, a pair of socks and a soccer ball. Deadline to register is Tuesday, March 19.

Practice begins the week of March 25 at the Dover soccer fields. Games begin on April 18, and will be played at the Joplin Athletic Complex soccer fields.
