Structure Fire, 1627 S Jackson, Joplin, Mo.
The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1627 S Jackson, at 1201 hours Monday afternoon, 21 January. Fire crews arrived on the scene at 1205 hours to find a 2 story, wood framed residential structure with moderate smoke showing from the roof. A fire crew made entry into the house to find moderate fire at the base of the basement stairs. All fire was contained to the basement. The seat of the fire appeared to be at the base of a hot water heater which was surrounded by multiple storage materials. There was heavy smoke damage to the basement and moderate smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.
4 Joplin Fire units and 16 Joplin Fire personnel responded, along with JPD and METS. No one was injured on the scene. Crews remained on scene until 1333 hours.
The cause of the smoke was determined to be radiant heat from the water heater to the surrounding materials.
