Structure Fire, 1602 South Main, Joplin, Mo.
The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported Structure fire at 1602 South Main Street at 1753 hours Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Fire crews arrived on the scene at 1753 hours to find heavy fire and smoke breaking through the roof of a commercial building on the SW corner of 16th and main. Fire crews immediately established a defensive perimeter around the building and then moved to stop it from spreading to the south. Buckland’s Furniture was destroyed as well. The fire was stopped between Buckland’s and Solace Church. The building was a total loss.
There were no injuries to the fire crews during the incident. 6 Joplin Fire units and 24 Joplin Fire personnel responded, along with JPD and METS. The American Red Cross provided a canteen to the responders.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated. Expectations are that crews will remain on scene throughout the night.
