Structure Fire, 436 N Pearl, Joplin, Mo.
The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 436 N Pearl, at 1100 hours Tuesday morning. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a wood framed residential structure with smoke coming from the side vents of the house. Firefighters entered the house and extinguished the fire on a mattress in a bedroom. The house suffered extensive smoke and heat damage. Crews remained on scene until 1300 hours.
A total of 5 trucks and 18 firefighters worked the scene. JPD and METS were on standby. No one was injured at the scene. The house is rented by Erica Peterson.
The cause of the fire was determined to be a short in an extension cord.
