Structure Fire, 1430 E South St, Joplin, Mo.
The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1430 E South Street, at 0732 hours Saturday morning on a report of the occupant smelling something. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a one story wood framed residential structure with nothing showing. Upon investigation light smoke was seen coming from the roof turbines. Crews accessed the attic and found light smoke and a small fire, which was then extinguished. Firefighters quickly had the fire under control and remained on scene until 0912 hours.
A total of 5 trucks and 18 firefighters worked the scene. JPD and METS were on standby. No one was injured at the scene.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical wiring in the attic.
