Structure Fire, 1720 S Annie Baxter Ave, Joplin, Mo.
The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1720 S Annie Baxter Ave, at 0705 hours Friday morning. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a one story wood framed house, owned by Greg Mrozinski, with heavy smoke coming from the roof. The house suffered heavy smoke damaged as well as heat damage to a rear enclosed porch. Firefighters had the fire under control at 1717 hours. Crews are still on scene at the time of this writing.
A total of 5 trucks and 18 firefighters worked the scene. JPD and METS were on standby. The American Red Cross was called to assist the family. No one was injured at the scene.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical. An overloaded extension cord failed and sparked the fire.
