April 18, 2017

SUBJECT:      Structure Fire at 227 N Cox

           

  • CONTACT:    Keith Stammer, Joplin Fire Department

The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 227 N Cox, on Tuesday, 18 April, at 3:59 AM. The first crew arrived at 4:03 AM. On arrival fire personnel found a fully involved fire in the carport area with a propane bottle venting and on fire, with the fire burning into the house itself along the carport wall.  Crews extinguished the fire and remained on scene until 6:03 AM.

  • There were no injuries to civilians or firefighting crews. The lone occupant had escaped the house by the time units arrived.  Firefighters rescued a dog from within the house. The house is owned by Robert Riggs.
  • The Fire Department responded with 5 apparatus and 14 personnel and was assisted by the Joplin Police Department and METS Ambulance Service.
  • The fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal.
