SUBJECT:      Structure Fire at 501 S School Ave (Joplin Workshops)

The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 501 S School Ave. on Friday, 24 March, at 5:12 AM. The first crew arrived at 5:17 AM. On arrival fire personnel found smoke coming from the structure. An aggressive interior attack was initiated and personnel found the fire to be in the laundry area of the building.  Crews extinguished the fire at 05:32 AM with significant fire damage to the laundry area.  Units remained on scene until 07:46 AM.

  • The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighting crews.
  • The Fire Department responded with 6 apparatus and 17 personnel and was assisted by the Joplin Police Department and METS Ambulance Service.
  • The fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal but does appear to be accidental in nature.
