February 7, 2017

SUBJECT: Structure Fire at 403 S. Club

CONTACT: James Furgerson, Fire Chief, Joplin Fire Department

The Joplin Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 403 S. Club. The call came in at 12:55 PM and the first fire crews arrived on scene at 1:00 PM, and found a single story residential structure with fire on the front porch and southwest corner of the structure. Fire crews were quickly able to extinguish the flames and confine them to the exterior of the structure. The occupant of the home was able to escape without injuries. The fire was brought under control by 1:10 PM and out at 1:15 PM.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighting crews.

The fire department responded with 8 apparatus and 18 personnel.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature due to improperly discarded smoking materials.
