dications continue to point toward a significant flood event across southeastern Kansas and southern and southwestern Missouri, starting today and continuing through Monday. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect starting at mid day today for the entire area. Rainfall of this magnitude will likely result in flooding of areas that do not flood during a “typical” flood event. In addition to the flash flood threat, many rivers are expected to reach at least moderate flood stage, with several rivers expected to reach major or even record stage. For some parts of southern and southwestern Missouri, flooding could exceed conditions that were experienced during the Spring 2008 and 2011 flood events.
Please be aware of low water crossings and secondary roads that cross rivers/streams. 6 inches of running water can sweep you off your feet, while two feet of water is all it takes to float your car. Turn around, don't drown.
