The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1301 E Central, at 1336 hours Monday afternoon. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a one story wood framed house with heavy smoke coming from a bedroom. Firefighters put out the fire and declared it under control at 1348 hours. The house suffered extensive smoke and water damage.
Units are still on scene at the time of this writing.
A total of 5 trucks and 20 firefighters worked the scene. JPD and METS aided. No one was injured at the scene. The Red Cross was called to assist the family.
The house is occupied by Shirley Benito and her 3 children.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
