Housing workshop for homeowners and developers set for March 7
The Missouri Department of Economic Development will sponsor a housing workshop aimed at homeowners and developers on March 7th from 10-4. The Neighborhood Preservation Act provides an incentive for the rehabilitation or construction of owner-occupied homes in certain areas of the state. The workshop will be held in advance of the NPA application deadline on March 15.
DED employees will introduce the program and give an overview. They will be available to verify both developer and homeowner residential property eligibility for the NPA program. Officials will also assist eligible customer’s complete applications.
The workshop will be held at the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce located at 320 E. 4th Street, Joplin, MO 64801. Individuals are welcome to come at anytime between 10AM and 4PM. A developer session will be held from 10AM-12PM. All developers interested should plan to attend during that time.
The Neighborhood Preservation Act provides an incentive for the rehabilitation or construction of owner-occupied homes in certain areas of the state. “Qualifying Areas” include “distressed communities,” as defined by state statutes and areas with a median household income of less than 70 percent of the median household income for the applicable MSA or non-MSA and “Eligible Areas” with a median household income of 70 percent to 89 percent of the median household income for the applicable MSA or non-MSA.
Eligible applicants include any taxpayer who incurs eligible costs for a new residence or rehabilitates a residence for owner occupancy that is located in a designated area.
For more information on the workshop, to determine if your property qualifies for the NPA program, or for other NPA related questions, contact DED at 573-522-8004.
