Joplin residential trash rate increases according to contract with vendor
Effective April 1, 2012, the Joplin garbage collection rate will increase from $10.22 to $11.18, with the Joplin garbage management fee remaining at 15 cents, for a total of $11.33 per month until further notice. The price increase is based on the Consumer Price Index for water, sewer, and trash collection services and the transportation index, whichever is greater, not to exceed 10% per year, according to the contract between the City of Joplin and Allied Waste Services. The CPI increase was based on the January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011 data that was 9.8%.

The Joplin residential trash customers’ rate to drop off bulky items, tree limbs, and tires at the Allied Waste transfer station will also increase on April 1, 2012. Persons with a water bill reflecting the Joplin garbage collection fee, together with matching identification, may drop off bulky items for $6.20 per load (currently $5.65), or $12.40 if the load includes tree limbs (currently $11.29). The new fee for tire drop off is $1.87 each with a limit of five per trip (currently $1.70 each). Pricing is higher for trailers longer than eight feet long. Any load over 2,000 is not part of this subsidized program.

Hours for this City-subsidized drop off program at the transfer station are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12 noon to 3 p.m. plus Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call ahead for more details, 620-783-5841.
