Aquatic Center Rules and Policies

Pool Closings & Inclement Weather

Aquatic Centers may alter the facility hours or cancel/close "Open Swim" based on the following:

  • Inclement weather
  • Cool air temperature
  • Cool water temperature
  • Mechanical or pool chemistry issues
  • Low attendance

Our policy states, if staff sees a lightning strike within 10 miles (in the sky or on a weather app), all activities will be suspended until 30-minutes after the last strike of lightning is outside our 10-mile radius and/or after the last sound of thunder is heard. Remember: the 30-minute clock restarts for each lightning flash within the 10-mile radius and each time thunder is heard. Patrons, officials, and fans will be asked to take shelter in a bathhouse or may leave the premises. Once the City of Joplin staff member notifies that the area is clear then activities may resume. There are absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy.

Rain Check Policy

If you pay to enter an Aquatic Center and the Aquatic Center then closes, you will receive a rain day pool pass to be used on another day during the current season. No refunds will be given.
