The Public Information Officer develops and manages the City of Joplin’s mass communications products, including The Citizen (a quarterly newsletter for residents), media relations, social media and news releases with the partnership of department managers.
Citizen Engagement
To receive news and announcements from the City, please sign up on our website under Notify Me, with the News Flash section and City News category. You can also receive notifications on City Council meetings, road closures, and other posted items on this site.
The PIO serves as the ombudsman for the City, assisting citizens with inquiries and concerns.
Media Relations
With an active news and media industry in the Joplin metro area, the PIO serves as the city’s media liaison, managing information and interview requests for City leadership, and serves as City spokesperson as appropriate.
This office staff also coordinates community relations, promoting and encouraging citizen participation in the development of city services and programs.
