Project Redirectory
09/01/2005 to 10/31/2005 8 am - 5 pm Various locations What do you do when the new telephones books are delivered? Option 1: Stack the books in your home or office forever; Option 2: Send the books to a landfill where they will also stay forever; Option 3: Recycle them. Project ReDirectory is the annual event that collects and recycles those old telephone books. This recycling project is sponsored by SBC, Corporation and the City of Joplin Recycling Department. Telephone books can be recycled throughout the year at the Joplin Recycling Center, Neosho Regional Recycle Center, the Southeast Kansas Recycling Center in Pittsburg, Kansas, and for Carthage residents the City of Carthage Recycling and Compost Center. For businesses with over 100 books to recycle, they may schedule a pick up by e-mailing Project.ReDirectory@sbcdo.com. For a list of drop-off locations near you, based on zip codes, call (800) 953-4400.
Starting September 30th and running through October 27th, SBC alone will distribute approximately 151,000 directories in the Tri-State area. If 100% of the books were collected for recycling, approximately 2,415 trees could be saved. Recycling helps lengthen the life of landfills and conserves our natural resources. Fun fact…it takes approximately 17 mature trees to produce only one ton of paper.
If you have questions, contact Mary Anne Phillips, Recycling Coordinator for the City of Joplin at (417) 624-0820 Ext. 501, or Bobby Gregg at the Neosho center (417) 455-9430, or Check Delp at the Pittsburg center (620) 231-8930, or the City of Carthage at (417) 237-7024.
