A Cappella Music Fest highlights area quartets including ‘ZING!’, 2010 Sweet Adelines International Quartet

Residents of Joplin and the surrounding areas will be given the opportunity to experience the true power of barbershop singing. Over 100 women from the four states join in a concert to be presented the evening of July 31, at Joplin’s Memorial Hall. The A Cappella Music Fest performance begins at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the performance are $5 and may be purchased at Memorial Hall in Joplin. Children six years and under are free.
Featured in the concert will be Zing!, the 2010 Sweet Adelines International Quartet Champions. The quartet competed with 52 regional champion quartets from the United States, Sweden, Canada, England, Australia and New Zealand. Members include Michelle Hunget (tenor-Olathe, KS), Susan Ives (lead-Topeka, KS), Mary Rhea (baritone-Norman, OK), and Melynnie Williams (bass-Newton, KS).
In addition to Zing!, there will be performances by members of Springfield Metro Chorus, Queen City Sound Chorus, and Ozark Showcase Chorus of Springfield, Mo., Sunflower Harmony Chorus of Topeka, Oklahoma Jubilee Chorus, Tulsa, Wamego Dutch Mill, Wamego, Ks., and Joplin’s own Show-Me-Harmony Chorus.
The evening concert is the culmination of a day of ringing chords and perfecting vocal harmonies as participating choruses are coached by the members of Zing! The event is sponsored by The Show-Me-Harmony Chorus, the Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau and The Joplin Parks and Recreation Department.
