Holiday Schedule for Trash Pick Up, Transfer Station Drop-Off, Recycling Cente
June 30, 2010
The City of Joplin residential trash pickup schedule will not change for the Independence Day holiday, because it falls on a weekend day, and does not affect the regular pick-up schedule.
The Allied Waste Services Transfer Station in Galena, Kansas (that accepts Joplin residents’ bulky items) is normally open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM…however the transfer station will be closed Saturday, July 3.
The City of Joplin Recycling Center and Household Hazardous Waste Facility is normally open Tuesday through Saturday but will be closed on Saturday, July 3. The Recycling Center is open to everyone regardless of residency. The center accepts all traditional recyclables and provides free packing materials.
The City of Joplin and Allied Waste Services contract determines the observed holidays. The designated holidays that will push the pick up days forward by one day include New Year’s Day, Christmas Day, and Independence Day if they fall on a weekday, using Saturday to catch up on collections. If these designated holidays fall on a weekend, there will be no change in schedule. Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving are also designated holidays. Since they always fall on a weekday, the trash pick-up schedule will move to the next day using Saturday to catch up on collections.
