Joplin’s Independence Day celebration to be held on Saturday, July 3rd

June 23, 2010

Plans for Salute America! Joplin’s Independence Day Parade and Celebration are underway, and many are getting excited about this annual event.

The event will be held on Saturday, July 3rd starting with a parade to honor veterans at 10 a.m. at Northpark Mall. The parade route will circle the Mall area, traveling from East Turkey Creek Boulevard to Northpark Lane to East 3rd Street. Organizers are encouraging community organizations, bands, scouting groups, and all citizens to participate in the parade. There is no entry fee.

The Celebration will continue at 5 p.m. as the community gathers in Landreth Park to enjoy musical entertainment, food vendors and a large fireworks show.

“We’re bringing back the community celebration with a parade to honor our veterans,” said Doug Joyce, Director of Parks and Recreation. “Parade around the Mall will add a dynamic way for families and organizations to participate in the Independence Day celebration. Then later at the Park, the community can gather and enjoy some great local entertainers.”

The celebration in the park begins at 5 p.m. with the Joplin Summer Winds Concert Band, Joplin’s own community band. Other performers will follow, including: Duke Mason singing gospel songs and Elvis Presley hits; Matt Coleman Band, country’s hottest rising stars; and Felonious Monk, a rockin’ blues band. Joplin’s fireworks begin at 9:45 p.m. Salute America Joplin’s Independence Day Parade & Celebration
