City to offer Amnesty Day on Saturday, June 19
June 16, 2010
Because the Joplin Municipal Court recognizes the difficulties of these economic times, it will hold an Amnesty Day for Saturday, June 19. Warrant Fees and Failure to Appear Fees will be waived to anyone wishing to turn themselves in on warrants from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Municipal Court, 303 East 3rd Street. This program is for Joplin Municipal city warrants only.
“The City understands that someone may have missed a court date or let a ticket lapse,” said Rebecca Diederich, Court Administrator. “Hosting an Amnesty Day allows people to take care of their cases without the fear of being arrested. It’s a way to work within their budget and be productive for both the citizens we serve and the City.”
She also noted that when warrants are issued, the individual’s driver’s license is suspended. During this program, the Court will lift suspensions on those offenders whose licenses are suspended through our court, so they can get their licenses reinstated.
“Providing assistance with license suspensions can be very beneficial for the citizen,” said Diederich. “This is an effort to give a real incentive for people to come in and take advantage of the Amnesty Day.”
In addition to the Court Staff and Municipal Judge assisting people with their outstanding warrant(s) and other necessary or recommended services, citizens may visit with social service agencies that can assist them in various ways. Information about community services will also be available, including Joplin NALA, Division of Family Services, Crosslines Ministry, Watered Gardens, Ozark Center Healthe Path Associates, Salvation Army, Children’s Haven.
Persons wanting to learn if they have an outstanding warrant can call 417-623-3131, ext. 430 to inquire.
