Trash, Recycling Center and Transfer Station's Hours due to Memorial Day
May 27, 2010
The City of Joplin residential trash pickup schedule will change for the Memorial Day holiday. For the week of May 30th through June 5th, the residential trash collection ordinarily made on Monday will be picked up on Tuesday, and so on, using Saturday, June 5th to pick up Friday’s collection and get back on schedule.
The Allied Waste Services Transfer Station in Galena, Kansas (that accepts bulky items from Joplin residential trash customers) will be closed on Saturday, May 29th through Monday, May 31st. The transfer station will reopen on Tuesday, June 1st. The new transfer stations hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 12:00 NOON to 3:00 PM; Saturday is 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
The City of Joplin Recycling Center will be open as usual on Saturday, May 29th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The Recycling Center is always closed on Mondays. The Recycling Center is open to everyone regardless of residency. The center accepts all traditional recyclables, and provides free packing materials while supplies last.
The City of Joplin and Allied Waste Services have a contract that determines the observed holidays. Designated holidays that push the pick-up days forward by one day include New Year’s Day, Christmas Day, and Independence Day if they fall on a weekday, using Saturday to catch up on collections. If these designated holidays fall on a weekend, there will be no change in schedule. Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving are also designated holidays. Since they always fall on a Monday and Thursday respectively, the trash pick-up schedule will move to the next day using Saturday to catch up on collections.
For more information contact Mary Anne Phillips at the City of Joplin, 624-0820 Ext. 501 or Allied Waste Services at (800) 431-1507.
