Airport launches on-line survey to gather passenger data
May 10, 2010
Officials with the Joplin Regional Airport have initiated an air service survey to help determine needs of business travelers, including their destinations, frequency and their general flight accommodations.
The data collected on local travel patterns will be shared with prospective airlines to support the case for regional jet aircraft to a new hub in the next cycle of Essential Air Service (EAS) bidding. The results of the survey will reveal the number of trips local travelers take each year, which airports they’re using now, where they’re traveling to, and what local travelers would support in terms of different local service at the Airport.
The survey is open to anyone, and can be reached at this link: http://survey.constantcontact.com/survey/a07e2vf2qn4g8m6hzsq/start. The survey will be open through May 22. Results of the survey will be available by the beginning of June.
Presently, the EAS carrier is Great Lakes Airlines. Their contract expires in October of this year. Under EAS status, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) provides a subsidy for air service to a carrier that best meets the community’s needs. The federal government this summer will be accepting bids for providing airline service here as part of the Essential Air Service program.
“This survey data will be an important factor as we develop options in the EAS bid process,” said Steve Stockam, Manager of the Joplin Regional Airport.
