Opening Day of Joplin Farmers Market set for Saturday, May 8
May 3, 2010
Preparations are being finalized for the opening of the Joplin Farmers Market on Saturday, May 8, to be held right in front of Joplin Memorial Hall. The opening bell will ring at 9 a.m. for a great day of music, shopping and fun.
Citizens can purchase fresh vegetables, plants and flowers, and locally raised beef at the Market. In addition, baked items will be available from the “Bake Sale Booth” to benefit Race 4 Hope. This year, the Market offers not-for-profit groups an opportunity to have a bake sale for their cause.
There will also be a children’s craft table for children to create a special gift just for mom. All items in the Market are grown within 50 miles of Joplin, to ensure local participation.
“We are excited about Opening Day at the Market,” said Beth Peacock, coordinator for the program. “This is the second year, and we already have twice as many vendors as last year.”
The Farmers Market will be only on Saturdays in May, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. In June, Wednesdays will be added to the Market. The Market will be open on Saturdays and Wednesdays from June 2 through September 25.
