The Sunshine Lamp District (named for the lamps that miners used on their helmets) is the recently renovated Downtown Joplin. Home to restaurants, shops, and business offices, the Sunshine Lamp District is a great representation of downtown revitalization efforts and hosts events such as Third Thursdays (March-October), a celebration of art and music.

The Bridge recreation and entertainment center boats 64,000 square feet of the most extreme and exciting activities in today’s youth culture. The Bridge is home to a 40' rock-climbing gym, cage basketball, internet café and wireless hotspot, and network and arcade gaming, as well as Autumn Ramp Park and The Foundry Music Venue.

The Bridge has something for everyone. Bridge staff members are highly qualified and well-trained individuals that are committed to the celebration of youth culture and individuality. They desire to build positive relationships with teenagers from all walks of life.

The Bridge is open every day except Monday with free admission - activities are priced separately.
Thomas Hart Benton Mural

On permanent display in Joplin City Hall, "Joplin At The Turn Of The Century, 1896-1906" is the famous artist’s only autobiographical work and certainly one of his finest creations. Dedicated on Joplin’s 100th birthday in 1973, the stunning work depicts early Joplin and its mining history.

Accompanying the mural is the fascinating "Evolution Of A Mural," a display documenting the development of the piece and Benton’s thought process behind the creation of his final mural. It includes the artist’s rough sketches and drawings of the monumental work in progress.

The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and by appointment on weekends.

The White Knight Arena is an equine educational and sporting facility. It is the goal of this facility to raise the level of horsemanship and to promote good sportsmanship for all who attend the clinics, seminars and sporting events. The spacious 100' x 200' indoor arena is suitable for clinics, shows, auctions. and many sporting events. There is also an outdoor arena and adjoining acreage that is ideal for a variety of events that range from Polo Tournaments to the Extreme Cowboy Race.

Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center, located in Wildcat Park, is adjacent to some of the last remaining chert glades, a globally unique habitat found only in this area and the biologically rich Shoal Creek, an important place for migratory birds and other wildlife. The Audubon Center highlights include a 1,300-gallon aquarium and Ozark stream; a large terrarium complex with glade species including collard lizards, snakes and tarantulas; a wildlife viewing area for visitors to see animals in their natural habitat; over five miles of trail systems with five outdoor learning stations and three indoor classrooms.

The center itself is a celebration of nature. Innovative "green" technologies create a truly distinctive building in keeping with the mission of appreciating, conserving and understanding our natural world. The local Missouri Department of Conservation offices are also located on site.
