Office of Public Information Officer

The Public Information Officer develops and manages the City of Joplin’s mass communications products, including The Citizen (a quarterly newsletter for residents), media relations, social media, and news releases with the partnership of department managers. With an active news and media industry in the Joplin metro area, the PIO serves as the city’s media liaison, managing information and interview requests for City leadership, and serves as city spokesperson as appropriate. 

Staff coordinates community relations, promoting and encouraging citizen participation in the development of city services and programs. Additionally, the PIO serves as the ombudsman for the City, assisting citizens with inquiries and concerns.
